When I used to gaze at the stars, I would lose myself in the beauty and the mystery of these seemingly random lights in the sky.
Since becoming a christian, the stars have become so much more than just beautiful objects.. They are a reminder of how small I am, yet how Majestic and AWESOME the God I serve is.
I cannot comprehend how many stars fill the night sky.. but my King created each and everyone.. I can’t even comprehend the size of this universe and my Creator can fit all of that in the palm of his hand!

“The Lord merely spoke,
and the heavens were created.
He breathed the word.
and the stars were born.”
– Psalm 33: 6 (NLT)

“Look up into the heavens.
Who created all the stars?
He brings them out like an army, one after another,
calling each by its name.

Because of His great power and incomparable strength,
not a single one is missing.”
– Isaiah 40: 26

It is a reminder to me that any issues or troubles I may have are so small compared to the faithful love my Father in Heaven has for us all…

” Give thanks to him who made the heavens so skillfully
His faithful love endures forever .
Give thanks to him who placed the earth among the waters.
His faithful love endures forever.
Give thanks to him who made the heavenly lights-
His faithful love endures forever.
the sun to rule the day,
His faithful love endures forever.
and the moon and stars to rule the night.
His faithful love endures forever.
– Psalm 136: 5-9 (NLT)

“May your glorious name be praised! May it be exalted above all the blessing and praise!
You are alone are the Lord. You made the skies and he heavens and all the stars. You made the earth and the seas and everything in them. You preserve them all, and the angels of heaven worship you.”
-Nehemiah 9:5-6 (NLT)

“Why give your blog the name chickpeas are small?” my dad asked with a tone of amusement.

Not so long ago I was mocking a friend of mine for always eating chickpeas – His stable diet was either chickpeas or popcorn.
He would joke by saying it is all he could afford. (which is true, chickpeas are also great for the bank!)
Then one day, after laughing at his ridiculous eating lifestyle, he asked me if i had ever tried chickpeas..
Cheeks bright red, realising my hypocritical nature, I quietly responded, “No..” So, he made a salad and included a large portion of chickpeas.

It was like love at first bite.

Now I am well known for my ‘strange chickpea obsession’ as quoted by friends.

If you know me at all, anything I like or become interested in I want to know as much as I can – So i researched chickpeas.

To my discovery, chickpeas are actually incredibly beneficial, filled with just about everything you need to include for a  healthy, well balanced diet ( also what your body needs to properly function, but You can do the research

“Chickpeas, or garbanzo beans, deserve more attention. Often limited to nothing more than a second thought as they’re tossed onto a salad, chickpeas can be used in a variety of ways, where they add a low-fat boost of nutrition that supports healthy weight loss.” *

I read this paragraph and started thinking about how many other things do we ‘give nothing more than a second thought about’..

Three things that came straight to mind was the bible, our tongue and words.

The Bible can be a small book, with small wiriting and small verses; yet it is LIFE and TRUTH.

“In the beginning the Word already existed.
The Word was with God,
and the Word was God.
He existed in the beginning with God.
God created everything through him,
and nothing was created expect through him.
The Word gave life to everything that was created,
and his life brought light to everyone.
The light shines in the darkness,
and the darkness can never extinguish it.”

-John 1:1-5

“Your word is a lamp to guide my feet
and a light for my path.”

-Psalm 119: 105

“You are my refuge and my shield
Your word is my source of hope.”

-Psalm 119:114

“Your laws are wonderful.
No wonder I obey them!
The teaching of your word gives light, so even the simple can understand.
I pant with expectation,
longing for your commands,
come and show me mercy,
as you do for all who love your name.
Guide my steps by your word,
So i will not be overcome by evil.”

– Psalm 119:129-133

And now we see what the Bible says about our tongue;

“If you want to enjoy life
and see many happy days,
keep your tongue from speaking evil
and your lips from telling lies”

-1 Peter 3:10

“The tongue can bring death or life;
those who love to talk will reap the consequences.”

-Proverbs 18: 21

“Gentile words are a tree of life;
a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit.”

-Proverbs 15: 4

“If you have trapped yourself by your agreement
and are caught by what you said –
Follow my advice and save yourself,
for you have placed yourself at your friend’s mercy.”

-Proverbs 6:2-3

“A beautiful woman who lacks discretion is like a gold ring in a pigs snout.”

-Proverbs  12: 22 ( a personal favourite )

This blog is my thoughts put into words.

Words can be outrageous and understated, small yet beneficial, blessings or a curse, life or death.

Picture thoughts

First a stranger

A quick chat.

An acquaintance

Coffee and cake.

Soon enough a friend

Late night conversations.

Now you’re family

engraved on my heart.

“But, for a Christian, there are, strictly speaking, no chances. A secret Master of the Ceremonies has been at work. Christ, who said to the disciples “Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you,” can truly say to every group of Christian friends “You have not chosen one another but I have chosen you for one another.” The Friendship is not a reward for our discrimination and good taste in finding one another out. It is the instrument by which God reveals to each the beauties of all the others. They are no greater than the beauties of a thousand other men; by Friendship God opens our eyes to them. They are, like all beauties, derived from Him through the Friendship itself, so that it is His instrument for creating as well as for revealing. At this feast it is He who has spread the board and it is He who has chosen the guests. It is He, we may dare to hope, who sometimes does, and always should, preside. Let us not reckon without our Host.”

C.S. Lewis, The Four Loves

The Ark

Its like I’m in a fishing boat, lost on the ocean, wrapped in a storm.

Waves of materialism and self obsession battering its fragile hull

trying to sink the small vessel into a sea of narcissists.

I can feel the weight of the waves pulling me down..

My strength alone is feeble.

Stability is found only in the One who calms the sea with a single word and who holds the universe in the palm of His hand.

craft your ship on the only foundation strong enough to prevail.

His Word.

The testing shapes our frame, Our choices shape our character..

Will you risk becoming another shipwreck?

Christianity doesn’t make you different, it makes you aware.

God of Wonders

“I hear the tumult of the raging seas
as your waves and surging tides sweep
over me.
But each day the Lord pours His unfailing love upon me,
and through each night I sing His songs,
Praying to God who gives me life. “

– Psalm 42: 7-8

a loud, confused noise, especially one caused by a large mass of people.
(of a crowd or a natural force) move suddenly and powerfully forward or upward.
The Ocean is one of the many majestic wonders of our Father.  Personally, it is one of my favourites..
I’ve always had a love for the ocean, whatever season, time or situation I might find myself in. The crashing of the waves and the feeling of weightlessness in the deep blue has always been a peaceful and calming remedy for my soul.

After the 8th of May 2016, everything changed.. what I felt towards the ocean emphasised and had a divine meaning.
My mind, eyes and heart were opened to an unreal beauty that I had been blinded to.. the never ending, mysterious sea made me realise how minuscule I was in comparison to such an immense God that I had surrendered myself to.

I listened to a sermon in which the preacher said, if you want to realise how much God loves us look at the colourful, marvellous world around us. His creation is nothing less than a masterpiece because it is an expression of who He is.

Whenever I place a  foot into the ocean or splash among the mighty waves, I cannot help but to sing His praises- we are beyond blessed that we worship a God who cares so immensely for us.
Praising and talking to my Father, surrounded by his presence is now where I find my comfort.
The most indescribable feeling for me is being under the water and in complete peace.
When you’re on the surface, every sound is magnified…a roar…but underneath it’s like someone pulls a thick blanket over and it’s still…All that is there is the creation and the Creator.

When I am surrounded by the presence of God, in the ocean or anywhere else – How powerful and beautiful it is, truly immeasurable..
“Mountains bow down and the seas will roar at the sound of your name.
I sing for joy at the work of your hand, forever I’ll love you, forever I’ll stand. ”
– Shout to the Lord, Darlene Zschech

Mighty to Save

Clouds grey with a light rain is how this long weekend starts off.
I’m seated on a shabby wooden bench with a matted pillow on top protecting my skin from the world of splinters that this bench contains.
In front of me is the matching wooden table, just as old, just as worn, just as rustic, just as splinter infested which is supporting my Bible, morning coffee and laptop

I always enjoyed the smell of fresh coffee beans but never tried it, the first time I had coffee was in South Africa less than a year ago but I think it was the two sugars I would add which overpowered the real taste which basically left milk and sugar.
Then one morning a friend made me a cup of coffee and when  I went to add some sugar, I realised the house had been stripped of every grain.
That is when my real coffee love or passion started – I now can enjoy the different flavors and experience of coffee.

In South Africa I lived with fellow coffee lovers  ( Their passion started a lot earlier than mine) but also Bible enthusiasts,so whenever we would study or read the Bible together a fresh cup of coffee would join us.
My love for the Word wasn’t something that happened overnight however, as may be the case for many, for me it was a process of understanding the character of God and what the Bible even represented.

A month or so into my new life of being a born again christian I had coffee with a beautiful women of God who I am blessed enough to call a friend and mentor, we began chatting about the issues I was having regarding reading the bible and also some personal insecurities that was the result of many years of living a meaningless and  sin indulgent life.
She told me to go home and read Song of Songs, not just as another book in the bible but as a love letter from God.

That night I got home and opened my bible to Song of Songs and at the top of the page I wrote ‘God’s love letter to …….(me)’ .

Reading this letter I had the most overwhelming feeling of intimacy; each word spoke truth and revealed the divine love that our Father has for us, also revealing the heart of how this Majestic King wants to have a personal relationship with us… with me..

“My dove is hiding behind the rocks,
behind an outcrop on the cliff.
Let me see your face;
Let me hear your voice.
For your voice is pleasant,
and your face is lovely.”
– Song of Songs 2:14

When I read this it made me realise that God is the creator, and He WANTS to spend time with his creation. He WANTS to hear our voice; every praise, every cry and what is even more beautiful is that He not only wants to hear us but it pleases Him…
For me the thought of this Almighty God wanting to listen to me and delighting in it is such a beautiful realisation of a Father who yearns to be close with His children.

I read this verse like a gentle whisper, I see my self hiding behind a wall of sin, ashamed of what I’ve done, overwhelmed by insecurities and worthlessness ..Then this soft, loving voice whispers..

“How beautiful you are, my darling,
How beautiful!
Your eyes are like doves.”
– Song of Song 2: 15

” You are beautiful, my darling,
beautiful beyond words.
Your eyes are like doves
behind your veil.”
– Song of Songs 4:1

“O my darling, lingering in the gardens,
your companions are fortunate to
hear your voice.
Let me hear it, too!”
– Song of Songs 8: 13

How blessed are we too have a God who views us in this light and who is desiring a close relationship with us.

My love for His word emerged from that night .. and I can honestly say nothing is more nurturing, flawless, challenging and refreshing to my soul than the beautiful words of our Creator.

What a wonderful start to any day; Scripture and a cup of coffee.

This isn’t poetry

I believe there is nothing more romantic than words and the sound of a piano.

As I type these words one of my favourite piano covers is being played through my headphones, I listen to this when I can’t sleep..

I’m feeling quite tired.
